Klein Collins AFJROTC Cadet Reaches New Heights in Aviation Dreams
Klein Collins AFJROTC senior Chris Tran is making way for himself in the world of aviation. This impressive student is not only the creator of the Cadet Flight School at Klein Collins but has just received his private pilot license and 15 hours of college credit.
This success is much deserved and is a testament to the hard work and dedication Chris has put forth towards his future. Chris was not initially set on an aviation career but quickly pivoted his plans when he learned of his eligibility for a Flight Academy Scholarship through Klein Collins Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Major Alan Fields.
"Initially, I was aiming for Air Force Intelligence but wasn't sure if I'd qualify. I was indecisive about my true passion until Major Fields informed me that I was eligible for the Flight Academy Scholarship," Chris said. "That moment was a turning point—I saw an open door and stepped through it. After preparing diligently for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Knowledge exam and passing, I discovered a passion for aviation."

Reflecting on his Flight Academy experience at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott, Arizona campus, Chris described it as challenging and transformative.
"The Flight Academy is super rigorous, and I don't think I would have made it without the supportive staff," Chris said. "The schedule was intense: waking up at 4:20 AM, flying at 5:30 AM, and continuing with instructional time until the afternoon, followed by Ground School. Even our supposed free time was often spent studying."
Despite the challenges, there were many highlights.
"Visiting the Grand Canyon, trying new activities like kayaking, and telling other university students that I earned my pilot license in just two months were some of the most memorable experiences," Chris said.

The student also walked away from the Academy feeling spiritually, ethically, and academically changed.
"Everyone at Flight Academy was so genuine and down to earth; I got to connect with cadets from all over the United States, and these cadets were just having a normal conversation and answering each other's curiosities," Chris said.
After graduation, Chris plans to further his education at the United States Air Force Academy. He'd like to eventually earn his Ph. D. in History to return to the Air Force Academy as a History Professor.
For his fellow students, Chris has a word of advice for those interested in Aviation or the Aviation Academy scholarship:
"If there's an open door, get your foot in it. A little step can make a tremendous change. Start early, teach yourself before lessons with an instructor, and even if aviation isn't your ultimate career goal, getting your pilot license in two months for free will change your life," Chris said. "You will grow and learn to strive for higher academic goals."
This Flying Tiger is an inspiration and is poised to achieve his dreams in aviation. Chris, your Klein Family is so proud of you for all your hard work and accomplishments. Congratulations!
